One of my knitting buddies said she'll be sleeping all day on Tuesday with the blinds shut tight. You see, Jimmy Carter will be sworn in for his second term that day. Because the two of us lived our formative years during JC's unfortunate first term as head of our republic, we know first hand what a second term of socialism and social engineering and big government and weak leadership means for us. And it's not pretty.
In honor of the unfortunate event, I've dedicated my sole New Year's resolution 2009 to reminding myself of the sheer brilliance that crafted this democracy 200+ years ago. I plan to read a biography of one of our country's founding fathers each month in 2009, starting with David McCullough's dazzling 2001 epic work, "John Adams". So I will not have the TV on at all on Tuesday; "John Adams" and I will be curled up on the sofa.
